Beef Cattle
We currently raise around 65 Angus-influenced beef cows and two Black Balancer (Gelbvieh/Angus) bulls. As a founding member of the natural beef co-operative Missouri’s Best Beef, we observe the following guidelines for raising natural beef:
- All animals are raised without any inputs of antibiotics, growth hormones or ionophores. (Exception: If the life of an animal is in danger because of an illness, they are treated with antibiotics, specifically identified and then marketed as commodity beef.)
- All calves are identified by birthdate/mother and this information follows them from birth to the consumer.
- All cattle are pasture-raised, using a managed intensive grazing program on the ranch. This means they are moved often to fresh grass.
- The preparation of grain-finished calves for slaughter is done at a co-operative feeding facility and they are processed at a co-op member’s processing plant.
In addition to our participation in this co-operative, we also raise and market grass-fed beef. We’re currently looking to expand our grass-fed beef operation.
